Fraction Action
We have been learning to identify fractions in class. Last week our Year One students had an opportunity to divide some wafer biscuits into equal (almost) pieces and name them using icing. They enjoyed making and eating their creations.

Uptown Fun (with the 9x tables)
Our very creative students decided to learn their 9 times tables the fun way by changing the words to Bruno Mars' song Uptown Funk. The students prepared everything without teacher input or direction such as changing the lyrics, creating props, making up their own choreography and filming and editing the performance. Here is their finished product.

Gassy Experiments
Our budding young scientists found an experiment on how to blow a balloon up using common kitchen ingredients. They were careful to follow all the instructions. Later we tried to see if the gas produced by combining vinegar and bicarbonate of soda could put out a candle.
Making Celtic cakes
It is always great to see students following their interests. Some boys found a recipe for Celtic cakes in a book and wanted to make some for the class. We needed to convert the recipe from imperial measurements to the metric system. Everyone enjoyed the warm cakes with a drizzle of maple syrup.
Circles make the world go 'round
One student was curious about pi. We decided to find out the relationship between the radius, diameter and circumference of a circle to find out where the calculation for pi came from.
